Staying Positive: Keeping connections and solidarity

Staying Positive: It’s a time of unprecedented uncertainty, for the first time in most of our lifetimes we know how it feels to be truly disconnected from others. We are separated from our friends, our family, our lives yet despite this, now more than ever, we need to reach out and maintain our connections. I personally have been keeping in constant contact with my family a whole continent away and we have been supporting each other as much as we can, sometimes just letting someone know you are there can be enough to keep them going.

My previous usage of MyPostcard’s services back in early March, which now seems like a lifetime ago, really stands out now as something which can be done to better communicate with the ones we care about. It is the work of minutes to create an account, pick a template, customise the design and submit it for postage and, once received, will surely provide a clear impression of care and concern to the recipient. I have used MyPostcard several times in the last few months and have always been pleased with my customised cards and have been overjoyed to receive them from others, I really can’t recommend the service more. If you would like to have a look yourselves please check them out here.

I’m lucky to be living with my husband through this and while we’ve driven each other slightly crazy I am eternally grateful to have someone keeping me company. To all those separated from loved ones, I hope that you are staying positive and that whatever ways you use to communicate are keeping you together in spirit until you can embrace again.

During this lockdown, while electronic communication has become the norm sometimes I do feel as though an email simply can’t convey the same emotional attention and care which can lead once emotional messages to lose some of their impact. To avoid this I have been trying to perform some
more personal gestures, sending handwritten letters or gifts, something that I rarely did before.

As often as it is said by the government, by businesses, by generally uncaring authority it is important to remember that we are all in this together. Whether you are in a mansion or a one bedroom flat that personal connection is important and can so easily be lost without us realising it. Just because we are social distancing does not mean we need to go our separate ways, just because we are quarantined does not mean that we must give up on our connections, just because there is no end in sight doesn’t mean it won’t be found.

For the rest of the quarantine I am going to do my best to be in solidarity with others and maintain those connections which are most at risk of being lost. While our lines may have diverged we can run parallel with each other, out of site but well in mind until the day we can converge again. To conclude make sure you stay positive, stay at home, stay safe and stay hopeful.

This is very well written! I’m so glad that we are able to still keep in contact through these hard times. Thank you for always being a phone call away and always checking in on me and for always making me feel better.
