Lanzarote Travel Guide: Things to do in Lanzarote

AD - Press Trip with Jet2 Holidays and Turismo Lanzarote

Lanzarote Travel Guide: Are you looking for some winter sun, somewhere to return to visit after visit? Then you’ve come to the right place. Last month I got an amazing opportunity of a 3 day trip with Jet2Holidays and the chance to explore the beautiful island; Lanzarote in the Canary Islands.

Getting to Lanzarote is super easy and convenient; you can catch a 4 hours flight with Jet2 from London Stansted Airport. You’ll also be pleased to know that Jet2Holidays offers packaged deals, so you can book your flights and hotels all in one place, making your holidays to Lanzarote more convenient. The entire process is smooth and stress-free!

After that little interlude let’s get into the Lanzarote travel guide. Upon Arrival we met with our travel guide Ines and she took us to one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen in my life, El Golfo.

Visiting El Golfo

EL Golfo is a stunningly green volcanic lagoon. It’s one of the most unique, incredible and picturesque places in Lanzarote. It is quite the walk to get to it but it’s definitely worth it. Located in a seaside village and a little note; if you are wearing a sunhat I’d highly recommend holding onto it so it doesn’t fly off to the sea. The lake is made green by its high concentration of algae and is surrounded by cliffs and red volcanic rocks.

I’ll never forget what our guide said about our next tourist location, Timanfaya National Park. She said the next location was like Mars and you know what she wasn’t wrong!

Timanfaya National Park

Timanfaya National Park is made up of volcanos and the volcanic soil appears in stark reds and blacks. It makes for a very picturesque scene and literally feels like you are on Mars. The park is home to Lanzarote’s active volcano that last erupted almost 200 years ago, so no need to panic; you’ll have a great time.

When we arrived we were handed hot volcanic rocks that we had to alternate from hand to hand as not to burn them. We also witnessed water coming out of the hot ground. It was actually amazing to feel the cooling water vapour on our skin as it cooled in the air, it was extremely refreshing in the heat of the day.

We had the opportunity to explore Timanfaya by hopping on a tour bus around the park and it took over an hour to see the sights. You can only explore the National park via a coach bus as self-driving is not permitted and I completely understand why, it can be extremely dangerous if something goes wrong in your car and you get stranded. Have a look at the gallery below and you can see what I mean.

Just before the tour we had amazing lunch at the onsite restaurant El Diablo. The food was absolutely fantastic, a mouth-watering assortment of grilled chicken that kept us going through the rest of the day!

Checking into the hotel

We checked into the Barcelo Lanzarote Royal Level with Jet2 located in Costa Teguise. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and I was lucky enough to have a room with a view of the pool and sea. My room had a living area, tea making station, fridge, balcony and a beautiful ensuite bathroom. The sunrises were so spectacular and the bed extremely comfortable.

Cuevas de los Verdes

This cave took my breath away; there are so many wonderful things about it. I’ll go as far as to say that this was my favourite part of the trip! The Cuevas was formed over 4,000 years ago through volcanic eruptions. The Corona volcano erupted and the lava spread through the 8km of tunnels. The cave has now been transformed and concerts are held inside of it. We experimented with our voices and there is absolutely no echo which I found extremely odd.

I’ve never ever been inside a cave before, so this was a unique and memorable experience for me and one that I would highly recommend to others.

Please note you can only visit Cuevas De La Verdes with a guided tour and it takes approximately an hour. Please wear comfortable shoes.

Jameos Del Agua

Jameos Del Agua is volcanic tunnel and cave with a beautiful pond filled with thousands of crabs. It is a very popular destination for tourists. It was designed by architect Cesar Manrique and has a beautiful pool (swimming is not permitted, although very temping on a hot day)

Wine tasting at Bodega Stratvs

If you are looking for a relaxing day while in Lanzarote go and experience wine tasting at Bodega Stratvs. It was a very interesting experience learning about how the wines are made and something I’m really happy to be including in my Lanzarote travel guide with Jet2 Holidays. Yurena took us on a guided tour of the winery and she was absolutely amazing and provided so much knowledge. We were shown how the grapes are grown the extreme heat in Lanzarote and the process they take to ferment the wine. We saw that their largest barrel on site held close to 14,000 litres of wine.

After the tour we had a delicious wine tasting with cheese and crackers with an awe-inspiring view of the volcanic sites in the distance.

Spend a day at the beach

You can also spend a day at the beach and unwind while soaking in the sun. We visited Famara beach located in the North West part of Lanzarote, its golden sand and volcanos in the distance making a firm impression for any visitor.

Visiting the International Museum of Contemporary Art

If you are a fan of contemporary art then Lanzarote has you covered. The MIAC is located in San José, perched high on a cliff. I was quite taken by the art and found the pieces below quite interesting.

Places to eat in Lanzorate

While out in Lanzarote, we had some absolutely delectable food and wines. I’ve even tried to recreate some meals back at home in England. If you ever visit Lanzarote, visit these restaurants to get the same experience as I did:

EL Diablo

Jameos Del Agua Restaurant

Kentia Gourmet Club

Castillo de San José Restaurant

Hesperides Restaurant

El Bocadito.

Hope you enjoyed the Lanzarote Travel guide and that you get to visit the luxury holidays island soon. If you’ve been before I would love to hear about your favourite experience there.
