Hotel Review: The Shendish Manor Hotel Experience

Hotel Review: For my birthday this year I fancied a short trip and immediately looked around Hertfordshire for the perfect location. Shendish Manor fit the bill exactly with its stunning grounds and decor straight from Downton Abbey, I couldn’t imagine a more regal place to spend my 28th! To get the full ladyship experience I reserved the 4 poster bedroom for a reasonable price.

With a small mountain of dresses in my bag and my photographer husband in tow, I set out to spend an elegant weekend away. Before my arrival, I started feeling nervous about the room and whether it would look similar to the image displayed on the website. I’ve had several bad experiences in the past and would be heartbroken if the décor fell short in this instance. I was surprised when I entered to see an even more beautiful, vintage and regal room than I could have imagined with the most stunning views out of the windows.

With that in mind, see the images below of the room. Each corner of the room is picturesque and straight out of a Jane Austin novel.

Things to do at the Manor

The manor itself is very impressive and boasts beautiful walks, several libraries, restaurants and so much more. I spent my three days at the manor exploring the grounds (when the weather permitted). I also attended afternoon tea and, as the rain beat against the window panes, I relaxed in our spacious room.

Golfing

If you fancy a round or two of golf, you’ll also be pleased to know that the manor estate contains a 19 hole golf course. It’s open 365 days a year and set against a sweeping backdrop of the English countryside. While I didn’t get the chance to go this time, I would love to revisit in the future and get some strokes in!

Dinning

The Hotel has several restaurants and also offers bed & breakfast at an additional cost. If you don’t feel like leaving the hotel grounds you can simply book yourself in for every meal. Alternatively, you can also order a takeaway to the hotel reception. With Hemel Hempstead’s town centre a short drive away you can always go in search of something tasty.

Afternoon Tea

Shendish Manor offers afternoon tea complete with finger sandwiches, scones (with jam and clotted cream) and an assortment of cakes to solve your midday peckishness with elegance and grace.

In summary, if you are looking for a location in Hertfordshire that takes you back in time with all the amenities of the present then the Shendish Manor Hotel is the ideal place for you. I spent 2 nights here and I immediately booked myself another trip. I simply didn’t get enough time to finish exploring all the grounds and could really do with a round of golf! I hope you will all visit one day and live out your own period drama.

I absolutely love the images!! The place looks aesthetically pleasing and I want to book a stay there immediately. I am glad to hear that you got the room you wanted because that can ruin the whole trip. Well written and look forward to reading more of your blogs, each one is better than the next and I can’t wait to see what you write about.
