Valentine’s day: How To Surprise Your Partner

Valentine’s day: It’s February which means Valentines day is just around the corner and many of us are starting to think of romantic ideas and ways to celebrate love with our partners, friends and family.

With a lot of us being in lockdown for over almost year now, we’ve had to change up our game in order to create romantic moments, dinner dates and movie nights at home. Last year I struggled to come up with Valentine’s day date idea as my husband and I usually go out on a date followed by a movie night. Well this year I am prepared, taking lockdown into account.

So with that in mind, I thought I would share with you some ideas to help you surprise your partner this Valentine’s day:

Declare your love for your partner as if it’s your first time

We all remember where and when we were when we first declared your love for our partner. Some a while into the relationship, over a romantic dinner, as traditional as can be, while others might have a more unconvential story: on the first date (channeling sitcoms), after an argument, over skype across the Atlantic ocean (as it was with me and my husband). At this point any potential situation to lead to those three words must have taken place at least once and everyone has their own special story.

This year why not revisit that moment, look back to when you first declared your love and reafirm it, tell your partner how you felt back then and how your time together has changed you for the better. Sometimes you need to look back to your past in order to appreciate the present and look forward to the future.

Go On A First Date Again

Romance can be a hard thing to maintain, you have your incredible first times and then you desperately search for something new and inventive to keep the spirit alive. Well why not take the easy route every now and then, go back to basics and redo your first date? Was it dinner and a show, a walk in the moonlight, a takeaway while watching TV? Whatever you did you can try to recapture the magic now, doing the best you can when regarding current circumstance.

So dim the lights, scatter rose petals, light those candles and check what times the local Chinese takeaway is open so you can bring that special event back to life.

You could even send your partner a postcard from MyPostcard inviting them to the first date again to make it all the more special.

Surprise Your Partner on Vantine’s day

Based on the title this is a bit of a no-brainer but you should really go for it, be unpredictble, mislead, misdirect lure your loved one into the perfect trap then spring it to show just how much you love them. Claim ignorance, apologise for forgetting, be lackluster in your romantic gestures, all building up to the real suprise. Obviously you don’t want to go to the point where this Valentine’s day could be your last but if treated with care the eventual suprise will be all the sweeter.

Don’t let distance get in the way

We live in strange times, times when we may not have the choice to be with the ones we love, a sad reality but one we can overcome with the power of love (and a few other things). With video calls and other electronic communication we can live, laugh and love with each other no matter how far apart you are.

You can also go a little retro with the help of MyPostcard, sending a fully customisable postcard to the people you love. MyPostcard provides a wonderfully designed and easy to use system on both their website and their mobile app.

Since my first time using their services last year they have been my go to brand for providing that special touch to those closest to me yet furthest away. You can take a look yourselves at MyPostcard and start designing your perfect card just in time for a Valentine’s day delivery.

Create A Day Of Surprises For Your Partner on Valentine’s day

Don’t think you have a strong enough plan to carry out one big suprise? Easy, carry out many smaller ones; romantic meals, flowers, presents, things that can be given throughout the day to keep the love rolling. Not enough time in the day? Extend valentines day over a few days, bend the occasion to meet your plans and ensure that your special someone has a fantastic time to remember be it in a day or longer.

Reasons Why I Love You

A nice and simple one for you to try, list all the things that made you fall in love with your partner, the essential ingredients to your love soup. From your list break down to your top 10 reasons and let your partner know those special things that they do that keep the fire alive, they could be anything; the way they smile, their humour (or lack of it), the way they know the exact moment when a good cup of tea is needed.

Valentine’s day is only one day every year and is a day for extravegant romance but it should also be used to celebrate all the little things that occur every other day, every little look, every kind word, every kiss goodnight. Celebrate the little things and appreciate every ounce of love you can.

I hope you enjoyed this. I would love to know how you’re celebrating Valentine’s day this year! You can find more of my blog posts here.
