For years I have always believed that flowers are a gift one receives from friends, family or a lover and therefore buying myself some flowers would make me look petty or sad. However, lately, I have come to realise that flowers make me very happy when I am feeling down, and they also make me appreciate life for what it is. So for the past three months, I have been treating myself to gorgeous blooms to elevate my spirit and forget the day to the day hustle and bustle.
The more I treat myself to flowers, the more I appreciate and notice all the things I have achieved in a month, and it’s a great feeling to know I am advancing in life even if it’s taking me a long time. So here are the five reasons you should treat yourself more often to flowers.
1. Reward yourself
If you’ve worked hard during a week or month, you should treat yourself to flowers and perhaps a glass of wine to celebrate the moment and know that you’re doing well in life even if it’s taking a long time to get to where you want to be.
I used to spend a lot of time pittying myself and saying things will never happen for me. I’ve learned your brain will believe what you continuously tell yourself whether it’s negative or positive. Once I decided to change the way I saw things and approached difficult situations, my mindset changed completely and became full of hope, ambitions and positivity.
2. Brighten up your home
I believe flowers brighten up any room they are placed in and could have a profound effect on those who see them. One’s home is the keystone of their daily routine, it’s where we wake up, go to sleep and spend a lot of spare time. A bright and colourful home can contribute to bright and healthy mind and nothing else has quite the same effect as a vase of fragrant and beautiful flowers.
3. Happiness
When I see flowers my mood suddenly lifts and a smile on my face. It’s a bit hard to explain happiness but for me it’s a moment of tranquillity, love with the mind completely in the present and in awe. Flowers has different ways of making people happy so if you’re feeling down, then get some blooms to cheer you up.
Valentine’s day brings so many people down, especially if they’re single. I remeber the days when I was single and how unhappy I was every Valentines day because I had no one to buy me flowers; it was just too depressing. I used to have thought like these ‘I could buy myself some flowers online, have it delivered to me and pretend it’s from a secret admirer’ or ‘I could simply go out and purchase some flowers and be proud of myself’. In the end I didn’t get myself the flowers but I enjoyed every chance I got to be around flowers.
Looking back, I strongly believe my love for flowers comes from not having someone to buy them for me at the time. Not having someone to buy you flowers makes you get up and find your perfect arrangement, really appreciating them no matter how briefly they brighten your windowsill.
4. Useful prop for photography
As a content creator, I am always looking for props to add to my pictures to get that ‘WOW’ factor. Flowers are incredibly beautiful, colourful, luxurious and if you place them next to anything they can change the whole aesthetic.
If you follow me on Instagram, then you will know how much I love flowers as I post many pictures of them. Flowers are quite pricey so using them as props for pictures can be quite an investment. If you want to start using flowers as props on a regular basis, I would suggest investing in some great artificial flowers just to save yourself some money and, with time, you can save up and buy fresh flowers whenever necessary.
5. Because you’re beautiful and perfect in every imperfect way
I’m not going to go into too many details with this reason because I believe it’s an obvious one. No matter where you’re in life it’s important to remember that you’re beautiful, unique and special. It’s very important for us to celebrate and appreciate ourselves because if we don’t then who is going to?
I used to think I was very unattractive and I used to hate looking at myself in the mirror even for second until I received a very important lesson from a friend about self appreciation and respect for myself. While attempting not to sound vain, today I believe I am beautiful with unique features and I love myself. To show myself how much I appreciate me, I buy some flowers whenever possible and I just love what they add to my self confidence.
